Barry Francis
Unionlearn Regional Manager, Southern & Eastern TUC

Barry became active in the trade union movement when he worked in the printing industry and was a chapel official at the New English Library, The Economist, and John Menzies and was Chair of the Greater London Region Branch of the GPMU (now part of Unite). In 1997 he joined the TUC as its Southern and Eastern Regional Learning Services Coordinator, and was appointed by the TUC to be its Regional Manager for the Southern and Eastern Region of unionlearn in April 2006.

Having been a mature student, Barry recognises the value of learning for adults. After completing his studies, he worked at the University of Hertfordshire. There he lectured in Industrial Sociology and Industrial Relations. His involvement in trade unions led him to become a TUC tutor at the College of North East London, before he joined the TUC.
