Mariane Cavalli
Principal and Chief Executive, Croydon College
Mariane has been leading the College since 2001 during which time it has developed as a significant skills provider for the South London sub-region. For example, it is now the largest Apprenticeships provider and is the lead College for Skills for Jobs; driving forward the employability agenda. At regional level it has recently been awarded the London pilot contract to deliver Advanced Apprenticeships in Sporting Excellence for Athletics, with 50 elite athletes on the programme, and has just become the first Regional Centre of Excellence for Health and Fitness (part of the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure). It holds several national awards, including two Centre of Vocational Excellence awards for its Building Services & Engineering and Hospitality & Catering provision. It was named Best Performing Further Education (FE) College by Kent Learning and Skills Council, in recognition of its commitment to the Profit from Learning scheme. The quality of its provision for its 3,000+ 16-18 year old students has gone from being in the bottom 8% to the top 25% nationally, and it has won several awards for innovative, work-related provision for its large cohort of 14-16 year old learners. It a significant provider of Higher Education with over 1,000 students on HE programmes and a turnover of £35m, the College is a significant employer in the Borough.
Committed to working collaboratively with employers, statutory and voluntary organisations across the Borough of Croydon, Mariane represents the College on a number of local partnership groups and she is a Board Director of Croydon Business and a Non-Executive Director with Mayday Hospital Trust.
Mariane represents the FE’s interests at regional level as a Board member of the London Region Association of Colleges and as founder member and Chair of London Capital Colleges (LCC). The LCC Principals are committed to working with the Mayor’s office in the delivery of the London Skills and Employment Board Strategy.
In addition, she is involved with various national committees and groups, including the National Strategic Skills group and is experienced in representing FE in meetings with Ministers and policy makers.
